. nk you. >> that is a d.c. legend. music lovers all over the world are remembering chuck brown this morning. the pioneer of go-go passed away from multiple organ failure after suffering from knew mope i can't. he was the creative force behind go-go. >> shawn yancy takes a look back at his amazing career and life. life. >> reporter: for five decades, chuck brown gave his fans his all keeping them on his feet with heart-thumping go-go beats, a genre of music that he created. >> at first, they had go-go clubs, dancers, no music. i decided to call it go-go music. >> reporter: in 2010, chuck earned his first ever grammy nomination. >> it is the greatest thing. oh, my god. >> reporter: how did it make you feel? >> i haven't gotten over it yet. i ain't never going to get over it, okay? >> reporter: chuck started sing gospel when he was just a little boy. he spent his youth in and out of jails. lorton penitentiary in northern virginia is the place that gave hive to his musical career. >> after i did about three of those shows, i knew i was going to be something. when i got out of there

investigation. vestigation. >>> chuck brown's family is holing a public viewing at the howard theater today. >> throughout the day, thousands of fans are expected to come out in honor of the godfather of go-go. melanie alnwick is live at howard theater with details on the tribute this morning. >> reporter: good morning. based on the number of media who are already here this morning, it looks like it will be a pretty well attended event. you said thousands of people are expected. we've heard some estimates as many as 20,000 or 30,000 people. it will be quite the scene here this afternoon. the family has made plans for a very quiet, respectful event. the 75-year-old godfather of go- go died may 17th from complications from pneumonia after a lengthy hospital stay. since then, fans have come to this area not far from where brown grew up to leave tokens of respect and appreciation. brown was scheduled to play a sold-out show at the newly renovated howard on april 1st. he fell ill just days before that. today, the formal farewell begins first with this public viewing. fans will able to quietly wa

name vincent gray or former mayoral candidate suleiman brown but the documents do allege that donations were transferred from candidate a to candidate b and that gore destroyed a record of those illegal payments. the charges do seem to support those allegations that suleiman brown made after he was fired from his job as an accountant in the gray ad m he says he was paid to bash former mayor adrian fenty during campaign debates and for a city council that has grown weary of scandals, some members are ready for the feds to finally wrap up the year-long investigation, whatever the outcome. >> i'm just really hopeful that the u.s. attorney is getting to the end of these investigations. certainly the people of the district of columbia deserve to know what happened and if there are laws bleaken, people have to be held accountable. >> the obstruction of justice for the alleged destruction of a notebook that contained campaign payment records just after suleiman brown went to the media, that is most serious charge. it could carry a sentence of up to 20 years in prison. mayor gray and suleiman b

tribute to d.c. music legend chuck brown. they lined up by the thousands outside howard theater for a public viewing of the late father of go go. fox 5's karen gray houston was out there, also. this was like a celebration. >> it was a celebration of the man's life and it was a day long viewing. it was supposed to end at 10:00, but around 8:30 torrential rain and lightning and thunder forced d.c. police to close the doors. angry fans protested and the doors were reopened. the wake for the most part was more joyful than sad. many fans just wanted to see chuck brown one last time. the day had a somber beginning for the tens of thousands of loyal chuck brown fans who lined up outside howard theater for the chance to file by his casket. as flamboyant in death as he ever was in life, but nothing could stop some folks from turning a sober event into a happy occasion. the wake spilled over into a huge public block party. where go go was not just for older music lovers, but diehard fans have strong memories. >> his greatest legacy is how much he loved doing what he did and sharing it wit
